Have americans always been as tolerant of new immigrants as they are today?

All I know is that they fill up my Home Depot's parking lot- of course I don't hate them but they are precisely the people that we do not need that many of- When they start sneaking in with advanced degrees in computer science and physics we'll talk again. When they practice sensible birth control instead of producing tomorrow's prison population and filling up our emergency rooms with gunshot wounds, ask me again. Have you ever driven from San Diego to Tijuana? Do you want to see more of that here? The Irish were treated like animals in the last century- potato famine.It seems as if the ruling cles have given up on the USA, flood gates wide open, general deterioration and lack of nationalism- I wouldn't mind if some of them took a hike too but left some of their money (jobs) behind. I know this is a stupid answer but damn it its' true.
